Welcome to Farafina Tigne, which translated into English means "African Reality". My name is Oumar Cissé, but my friends also know me as "Peace Corps Baba", a name that I adopted to honour my friends in the Peace Corps who helped me improve my English and assisted me in starting my own business. I am from the Fulani culture but I was raised in the Dogon town of Bandiagara which is about 75 km from Mopti. I now live with my wife Mariam and our children in the city of Mopti, but our store and workshops are in the town of Severé which is 12 km from Mopti. Severé is also where we have an Internet Café and it's the home of our African Bead Museum. Our museum is the only one of its kind in all of Africa, where we display a large collection of antique beads, West African trade beads and beaded regalia from other parts of Africa. In the museum we also have artefacts from the Tuareg people. Our main business is the trade in African beads and crafts which includes jewelry, accessories, textiles, carvings and specialty items of African art. Although we feature items from across Africa, our focus is mainly on the arts and crafts that are produced in Mali. We ship our merchandise to all parts of the world and attend many international fairs and exhibitions. Mopti is located at the approximate geographical centre of Mali. Historically and even today it has been a crossroads of trade and a melting pot of different people from across West Africa. We employ many local people to fabricate our own designs. We also trade with artisans from all over the country to obtain the best crafts that Mali has to offer. We invite you to explore our website and discover our world.
