| Welcome
to the Farafina Tigne African Bead Museum. Our museum opened its doors
in 2000 and is the only museum in Africa exclusively devoted to the human
art of adornment. In African societies, beads serve many purposes. They
are worn to display power and wealth, or as a form of visual communication.
Over the ages they have also been used as money and are often exchanged
as a token of affection. But most of all, they serve to decorate and beautify
the human form. |
| The
museum houses a large collection of ancient and rare beads from all across
Africa, including beaded regalia worn by kings and royals. We also have
a small exhibit of Dogon and Tuareg artefacts. |
